Junk Style Vase

I love it when I find a cute use for my stash of tin cans. I sometimes feel like such a hoarder when I look at the little corner of my kitchen counter where I have clean cans and jars. But the hoarding feels worth it when I finally use one to make something, like this cute little flower vase from an old slotted metal spoon, a tin can and a piece of scrap wood.

I picked up the spoon at a yard sale, thinking I would bend it and somehow use it as a candle holder. Eric had brought me a few pieces of scrap wood and this one was just the perfect size for the bent spoon. I painted it with some Destin Gulf Green and added a little Santa Fe Turquoise over that. Then I drilled a hole in the handle and added a screw.
But, instead of a candle holder, I decided to use a tin can from my stash and turn it into a vase.
I painted the tin can with some Destin Gulf Green, too, then added some Traverse City Cherry. I had a little bit of this teal thread hanging around in my stash, too. I wrapped that around and tied it off, adding a little hot glue to the front and back.
The vintage button broke while I was putting this together, but I think that's just fine. It's the perfect button, after all, with that little bit of green patina on it. It's resting on a flattened bottle cap that I painted in Kentucky Mint.

Here's a view from the bottom so you can see the can resting on the spoon.
I added a little Queen Anne's Lace from the yard. I used to love it as a kid. Guess I still do. :)
Quick. Easy. Junky.
My favorite kind of project!
