Make 2015 a Good Story!

Happy New Year's Eve my friends!
I've been pretty busy this Christmas season filling custom sign orders for a bunch of my friends,
as well as celebrating with my loved ones.
But I wanted to take a moment to wish you all a most wonderful 2015!

Log Slice Reindeer

I asked a friend of mine to cut some log slices for me a short time ago.

When I got a pile of them, these misshapen logs reminded me of reindeer.

The rings in the logs had naturally formed a nose so I saw it pretty easily.

I thought I'd try it out and I love them!

A Christmas Gallery Wall

I always decorate the wall in my dining room for the holidays.
This year, I began with a large chalkboard I had made out of a mirror frame.
From that, my dining room wall became a Christmas Gallery Wall!

A few weekends ago, I had a craft show in my hometown.
It was amazing and I nearly sold out.
It was a 3-day show, so on the morning of the 2nd day,
I was desperately looking through my stuff to figure out
what I could quickly make to restock my booth a bit.
I came up with this wooden angel.

With all of the snow we had last week,
I got motivated to get my home a little bit winterized.

I pulled this shovel out of the trash pile at work.
Who throws away a teal shovel??
Well, the guys I work with do.
I suppose they didn't see any use for it anymore since it's no good for shoveling.
But I think it makes a pretty snazzy winter sign!

We're in full-out winter now here in Michigan.
I am not excited.
But it certainly does make it a bit easier to get working on Christmas projects.
Today's project is a new snowman I made from cake pans.

Wooden Block Snowmen

As I sit at the computer, the snow is blowing outside my window.

I, for one, am not ready for winter weather.

But what do you do?

Especially when you live in Michigan and have lake effect snow on an almost daily basis!

They've been talking about snow for over a week so it comes as no surprise.

And I guess you just have to embrace it and deal!

Well, I'm dealing by making snowmen!

Farm Fresh Eggs Pallet Sign

I got so busy last weekend making signs and Christmas stuff
for a show this weekend that I forgot to use my time wisely
and take pictures during the daylight hours!

One thing that definitely stinks about setting our clocks back
is that it's dark out when I get home from work in the evenings.
But I did manage to snap a few pictures of this sign
in the 20 minutes of light before I had to leave for work this morning!

Especially when I'm dreading cold weather and snow.

I bought 2 matching round tables from a yard sale last year.

The tops of the tables have indentations around them and, to me,

they resemble a bottle cap.

So I ran with that idea!

Rustic Photo Frame DIY

I took some pretty nice photos of my kids a few weeks back and
thought a nice, rustic frame would be the perfect accompaniment for the 8x10 I had printed.
Using wood from a crate, I made a great little frame for my living room!

I've had this wonderful piece of salvaged wood
in my garage for a few years now.
I had a few in things in mind for it but they never seemed
to work out quite right when it came time to use this piece.
Guess it's just been waiting for me to find the right match for it.
And I found that match when I picked up an old brown finial.
Now it's a gorgeous backdrop for wall hooks!

Rescuing a Little Round Table

It isn't often that I can actually pick up a piece of furniture on  the side of the road.

My car is just too darn small!

But I saw this cute table on my way home from work last week and,

GUESS WHAT?

It fit in my car! 

So I scooped it up, brought it home with me and gave it a little makeover!

Teal and Lime Green Dry Sink Makeover

This dry sink was nothing special. Just your standard assembly-required piece of furniture with a very dark finish. Because of it's original dark look, I planned on painting it white and distressing the edges. But things took a turn for the better. ( I think anyway!)

This week I'm taking my kids to meet their teachers for the new school year. They're excited and, frankly, so am I, although it's hard to believe I will have a 4th grader. Makes me feel a tiny bit on the old side!
With the start of school, comes thoughts of fall: sweaters, warm drinks with friends on a cool night, movies under a blanket. And, most of all, beautiful autumn colors!

Sometimes you luck into the perfect things at a garage sale. Like these two cutting boards I picked up last weekend. I had nothing fancy in mind. I simply knew they would make fantastic kitchen signs!

I don't know about you, but I love hooks! There's never enough places to hang bags, backpacks, coats and hats in my house! Even with hooks readily available, the kids love to come home from school and just drop everything on the floor. Is it just me or do you have that problem, too? I'm thinking it's universal with kids everywhere!

I'm always picking up various odds and ends at the thrift store. One corner of my house is actually overrun by all the junk I find. I figured I'd better start using some of it or I might as well just call myself a hoarder and be done with it! This project used only one little piece from my stash, a wooden bowl. Since I picked up this old porch light at a rummage sale last summer, I've always thought it would make the perfect birdhouse. Well, now it's transformed but not quite into a birdhouse. It's a pretty piece of indoor spring decor instead!
