I've been a busy little elf this year making custom signs for Christmas gifts.
Although I like all of the signs I make,
I do have favorites, of course.
And this Montana sign is one of them!
A friend of mine asked me to make something for her relative that recently moved to Montana.
She gave me free reign and this is what I came up with.
I really like this sign for a few reasons.
First, the stained finish is always a favorite of mine.
This is new wood, not pallet wood,
simply because I didn't have any pieces of pallet wood handy
that were quite long enough to fit the bill.
The walnut stain looks great on the boards.
I really like the script font on this one as well.
But the main reason I love this sign is the semi-transparent shape of the state.
On the computer proof I sent my friend, I had made the state a bit transparent
so that the wooden background showed through.
And, when I went to paint the sign, I really wanted to achieve that same look.
And, when I went to paint the sign, I really wanted to achieve that same look.
It worked out so well!
By just dry-brushing the paint on ever so lightly,
but thick enough to still let the charcoal lettering pop from the background,
I was able to achieve the semi-transparent look I wanted.
With it's classic look,I'm sure this one will remain one of my favorites,
no matter how many signs I make,
and that's a lot!
Let's keep in touch...
Your comments make me smile :) 'Til next time!
