A Junky Fruit Bowl

Boy, am I glad I picked up a broken metal base at a yard sale a few weeks ago! It turned into something I'm absolutely loving... this junky fruit bowl!

For some time now, I've had this great old tin laying around. I just love the curves and the patina on this vintage beauty!
A few weeks ago, I got a call from a friend about a yard sale that he stopped at. He knew it was right up my alley! So the kids and I left the grocery store and headed that way! Pronto!

It turned out that the yard sale was to benefit the cause of rebuilding a very, very old covered bridge that burned down not that long ago. It was such a tragedy as it was one of the oldest covered bridges in Michigan. Our area is so fortunate to have some great historic landmarks and it was very sad to see this one go.
It also turned out that the sale was donation only. So I picked up quite a few things and threw my donation their way. I happened to pick up this old metal base that was hiding behind an old lantern. (Which, of course, I also picked up!)
Once I had a chance to look at everything, I just knew this would be the perfect partner for my favorite vintage tin! So I grabbed some Pittsburgh gray and painted the base, then added some Vintage White. I took a lightly dampened cloth and wiped off some of the paint to distress it.
After adding some wax to the paint, it was as easy as drilling a hole in the bottom of the tin and inserting the bolt through the tin and back into the base!
And they certainly are a match made in heaven!
