Valentine Vases with Repurposed Sweaters

Sweater and Heart Vase Upcycle via http://deniseonawhim.blogspot.com
If you're anything like me, you have a boatload of clear glass vases sitting in a cupboard somewhere in your house. Mine are in the cupboard above my refrigerator. The cupboard I can't reach unless I get a chair to stand on. I have about 10 vases and only two that I ever really pull out and use. So I figured I would find a way to pretty up those vases and put them to good use!
I bought a couple sweaters from the thrift store. One red and one white.

I started by cutting the sleeves off of each sweater.

Then I wrapped a white sleeve around each small bud vase shown here to get the approximate amount of material I would need to cover the entire vase. I trimmed it and I hot glued the sweater to the vase, folding it down at the top like a cuff.

I added some red corduroy hearts to the white vases from a blazer I had also purchased at the thrift store.

If you saw my Embroidery Hoop Valentines, you'll notice that this is the fabric I also used for that project.

For the red vase, because it was larger and wider at the bottom, I simply slid a sleeve over the vase and hot glued it around the top. Again, I folded the top down to resemble a cuff.

The sleeve of the red sweater was wide and fit perfectly onto the vase. It's simply draped over the bottom and not attached. Almost like they were made for each other!

The vases look cute as a set.

And they look nice alone, too.

Especially when they have a backdrop as pretty as a worn crate, old red books and the beautiful vintage aqua scale I picked up when I went to the Grand Rapids Antique Show. Score!
