Themed Log Slice Coasters

Coffee Themed Log Slice Coasters from Denise on a Whim
A short time ago, I made a request for some log slices from a friend
and she delivered, just in time for me to make these coasters
for a few of my other friends for Christmas!

Actually, it was her husband who cut the slices for me.
But he says he didn't mind at all.
It's so nice to have friends who can do things I cannot
and who are more than willing to help me out!

The coasters were pretty to make.
I did bake the slices for about 2 hours in the oven set at 200 degrees.
Then, after I had sanded the slices well,
I used a vinyl stencil that I had created to paint the graphics and lettering on.

The last step was adding polyurethane.

My friend Michelle lives at the lake,
and uses red in her living area decor,
so she got the lake-themed coasters.
(By the way, it's also very nice to have a friend who lives at the lake!)

My friend Wendy loves coffee.
Some may even say she can't function properly in the morning without it!
I can understand that myself. haha!
Her coasters were coffee-themed and I used a color called Weathered Wood for the graphics.

For the holders, I used some 1x4 pieces
that I originally was going to use for the coasters,
before the delivery of the log slices.

I constructed a 3-sided box out of them and then added
the hardware brackets on the front.
With the brackets on the front, instead of a complete 4-sided box,
the front coaster can be seen and it makes a cute display when not in use.
Plus, I always like an industrial vibe!

These made a fun present that was inexpensive but personal.
They seemed to be a hit! :)
