Coffee Served Daily Sign

I love coffee. This is no secret. But, for some reason, I've never made a coffee sign. I've seen some super cute ones out there lately so I figured it was time for me to join the crowd!

Vintage Suitcase Table

I've always wanted to try my hand at one of the awesome suitcase tables I've seen around. And when I saw an incredibly gorgeous vignette on Pinterest with some brown, white and red suitcases, I fell in love! So I pulled one of my old suitcases out of the garage and got to work!

Chippy Dresser with Hinged Front

Today I'm sharing my first chippy piece of furniture with you. I really love the chippy look, but I've never tried my hand at it before. I really like the way it turned out and I hope you do too! Let's have a peek, shall we...

Guest Posting at Art is Beauty

I'm excited to be guest posting today at Art is Beauty! The very lucky Karin, who paints some of the most pretty pieces of furniture, has packed her bags and went to Ireland (like I said, LUCKY!) and I'm doing a little filling in for her. Although I haven't packed any luggage lately, I did paint some! I'll be showing off a vintage suitcase table, all prettied up with CeCe Caldwell paints. Join me at Art is Beauty to check out this fun project. See you there!

Sweet Little Sewing Cabinet

Today's post will be short and sweet.
Mostly because I'm busy this week at our county fair and every time I sit down to write a post, I get interrupted. Fair week is a crazy-busy-fun week, that's for sure!

Chippy Window Memo Board

We recently got our hands on a bunch of free old windows like this one. So far I've only used 2 single pane windows with broken glass from the bunch. One I used as a frame for a vintage print I made at work. This one I turned into a memo board with just some drop cloth, paint and jute string.

Pallet Signs

Here are a couple of pallet signs for your viewing enjoyment :)
Eric sometimes makes them with a frame, like these.
The frame just adds a little somethin'-somethin' to the sign....

A Little Project for Me!

It's pretty rare that I actually work on a project meant for me. We're usually too busy trying to prepare for a show. And now, with the addition of our permanent booth at Caledonia Vintage Marketplace, things will probably only get worse. Let's hope business is that good anyway. :)

But a few weeks ago, I decided to get a print made of a photo I'd had taken of the kids and I about a year ago. I hate to say I'd waited that long to get prints made, but it's true. Sometimes things just get crazy and you forget little things like that.

But I figured it was high-time to replace another picture I had in my house so I got this one printed too. Of course, when I got home, I didn't have a frame to put it in. When it comes to my own frames, I always gravitate toward nice, chocolate brown tones. But, I figured I might as well put some of my painting skills to good use. So I grabbed a thrift store frame. It was shiny silver. Not my taste at all. But, no fear. I had my Ce Ce Caldwells' paints on hand!
I painted a nice coat of Virginia Chestnut on the frame and let it dry. Then I added Santa Fe Turquoise over the brown, brushing up and down, left and right, making sure to deliberately let the brush strokes show. I love how the brown peeks out from under the strokes and in the details on the frame.
The colors were a great match for the photo itself. With the filter on it, the picture definitely has a nice vintage feel and the color of my shirt and eye shadow coordinate so nicely with the chalk paint colors I chose.
I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
And ugly silver frame would never do, but now it is a focal point for one corner of my living room. :)

Vintage Crate Turned Desktop Paper Organizer

Today I'm sharing a vintage crate project with you.
I love vintage crates, don't you?
This crate was an estate sale find. I'm not sure why I couldn't just let this old girl stay a plain-old crate. But... I just couldn't. I guess I figured she'd been a crate long enough.
Now it was her time to shine!

Here she is before (almost before anyway! lol). I realized after I'd started painting that I forgot a before picture. Again! So I quickly snapped this one to show you.
I used Virginia Chestnut on the outside of the crate.
Its such a wonderful, rich brown!
I also waxed it with dark aging wax to make it an even deeper shade.
For the inside, Barcelona Orange with a coat of Johnston Daffodil over that, brushed every which way so you can see the strokes. And only lightly coated in some spots, so the Orange would show through.
I painted the edges with (are you ready for it...?) Santa Fe Turquoise.
Sorry, can't help it. I just love these colors together.
I guess lots of other people must like them too, judging by the response to our
I then applied clear wax over all of that.
Eric then made some cleats and shelves so this little gal could hold papers on the desktop.
We gave her three shelves, all of which got the same paint treatment as the rest of the original crate.
This old gal is just the perfect size to hold regular size paper and a few pretty accessories too!
I'll be talking about the little goodies in these pics this week too, so be sure to stop back by. :)
I'm so glad I decided to give this crate a new life as a pretty office organizer.
She fits the bill just perfectly!
See that little box there on the right of the crate in the pic above? That's my cool new ruler box. It's got sentimental value for me. If you missed the post, you can check it out here.

Shabby Striped Stools

These two shabby stools have been mine for awhile. I used to have the perfect spot for them , a long, long time ago in another house. I had an island between my kitchen and dining room and these were great there.
But when I moved into my current house, they ended up sitting in my garage.
One day, one of them wound up back in the house, for my scrapbooking area. The legs got trimmed about 2" to fit the table height I would be sitting at.
I was all set to scrapbook.
And then I had my second child...
I got a tad bit busy.
And ended up not doing much scrapbooking after that! :)
So last week, I dug one of them out of the garage and grabbed the other lonely, unused stool from my bedroom. Once again, I forgot to take a before picture. I get so excited about starting things that I dive right in without thinking! :) But I can at least describe them for you. They originally had white legs and a light, natural stain on the top. Pretty plain and relatively boring. But functional stools, nonetheless.
I painted some Virginia Chestnut on the legs where I knew I would be distressing them. Once it was dry, I painted Old White over that.  I added Old White on the bottom of the seats as well. Then I painted the top of the stools in Chestnut and added Santa Fe Turquoise around the edges. Then I did the reverse.
I just love aqua and chocolate brown together, don't you?
I shabbied them up a bit, bot the legs and the seats, and I waxed them with both clear and dark wax.
I thought they were finished. But they just weren't...
A few days later, after staring at them, trying to figure out what else I wanted to do to them, I finally figured it out! I got out some masking tape and taped off lines of various thicknesses and spaced unevenly apart. And then I got out the Destin Gulf Green and painted some stripes, distressing those after they were dry and adding wax to those areas.
Now I think they really are done!
And I couldn't be happier with them.
What do you think of them?

Antique Handle Caddy

I will be the first to admit that I shamelessly stole this idea from Donna at Funky Junk Interiors. I saw it shortly after I signed up for Pinterest and fell in love.

So last summer I began the search for an antique drill, at a very reasonable price. They are pretty easy to find, but I knew I didn't want to pay much. So... I waited. And then, I happened upon this antique hand brace during the last few hours of a barn/estate sale right outside of town. For only $2.00. Now that's my kind of price tag! :) It still has what looks like a screwdriver bit in it.
I immediately told Eric what I wanted him to do with it. It was not on the top of his priority list, apparently, because it just got done about a month ago. But that's ok, because it did indeed get done! He is a man of his word, even if he is slow!
Just teasing, Eric! {love ya}

I have no idea how he put it together. I didn't even bother to ask, because I was way too excited! But Donna gives an excellent tutorial on her blog at the link above.
The timing actually couldn't have been more perfect. Right after he finished the caddy, I received my new shipment of Ce Ce Caldwell's sample size paints. And I was just itching to try them out. I picked the Traverse City Cherry because I've seen some nice things done with it and I don't usually lean towards red. But, boy, am I glad I did!
I painted the entire thing in red (it's a very beautiful red, by the way!) and then did a splotchy (that's the technical term, right?) topcoat of Virginia Chestnut. Then I distressed it and used dark aging wax over the whole thing.
I think it looks a lot like barnwood.
And I LOVE it!
Hope you enjoy it too :)
