Vintage Valentine Vignette

Vintage and Thrifted Pieces in a Valentine Vignette via http://deniseonawhim.blogspot.com
Sometimes all it takes is one small, pretty thing to inspire an entire vignette. That's exactly what happened when I swapped out the decor on my wall shelf recently!
You may remember how I made my Vintage Sled Shelf before Christmas to hold the teal and pink vintage bulbs I had found. I had planned on putting some white, wintery decor on the shelf after I removed the Christmas bulbs. But, once I remembered about some heart-shaped hard candy molds I'd found at the thrift store, I completely went in a Valentine direction!

First, I designed this small print to fit inside the 8x10 frame I'd painted for our Christmas Countdown Board. I had tweaked the photo a bit to give it more of an aged, black and white but slightly sepia appearance. After printing it, I added it to the frame.

Since the wood on the sled itself is very aged, and because I was building this entire vignette around some metal molds, I decided a wonderful old book would be another good touch.

It's a Norton Anthology of American Literature. Warn, slate-gray binding. Perfect!

My daughter wanted to add the flowers so I grabbed one of my old spools and it became a nice vase.

On top of the book, I added this small, cream-colored thrift store pitcher to hold those metal candy molds in the shape of hearts. They make the perfect flowers with just a little wire twisted around the bottom for stems.

Then I hung a few from the rusty metal on the sled with some twine and miniature clothespins...

So now we have a vintage-inspired Valentine vignette on our sled shelf. I am slightly in love with the time-worn appearance of it all.

I hardly ever use such a tone-down, neutral color pallet (minus teal) in my decor but it's really working for me on this shelf! What do you think?
