Yesterday I kind of showed you my new shelf. My Crochet Thread Snowmen were sitting on it in their debut. I made the shelf from a rusty and weathered old sled. It's the perfect winter accessory for my living room!
It's rare I make something specifically for my home, but this project was made just for the spot above my tv.
And I made it specifically so I would have a place to display the vintage teal and pink ornaments I found at the thrift store for a mere 75 cents!
I also found this spool of matching pink thread while I was there. Add a little wire star and it becomes a Christmas tree! Here is sits in front of an old enamelware pie pan.
If you missed the Crochet Thread Snowmen, go check them out! They're all kinds of thrifty!
I added a small glittery printed sign made from with a manilla file folder and some yarn. You know how much I love signs!
I strung some of the vintage bubs in twine with a few poms I made from thrifted yarn. I just happened to find the perfect colors while I was shopping!
I love the way everything ended up coordinating so well! And the rusty metal and weathered wood on the sled is almost too perfect...
When I constructed the shelf, I used newer wood for the shelf and triangle brackets but aged them with a steel wool and vinegar mixture. I went over it a few times so it would closely match the sled wood.
I love my new shelf. It's rustic and it's the perfect fit for the area above my tv. I plan on keeping it there most of the winter, at least until I get spring fever!
