Coffee Served Daily Sign

I love coffee. This is no secret. But, for some reason, I've never made a coffee sign. I've seen some super cute ones out there lately so I figured it was time for me to join the crowd!

The Chalkboard with a Magnetic Personality

I found this cheval mirror frame at an auction. There was no mirror in it when I bought it, unless one small shattered piece in the bottom corner counts. The frame itself was in good shape, so I snagged it up for a steal, just knowing it would be a great upcycle project!

Red and Turquoise Table

I love using bright colors on my crafty projects, but I seldom get quite this colorful with furniture.
The mix of red, white and teal just seemed to be calling to me...

Pallet Signs

Here are a couple of pallet signs for your viewing enjoyment :)
Eric sometimes makes them with a frame, like these.
The frame just adds a little somethin'-somethin' to the sign....

Flowers and Turquoise Birds

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to take a few photos.
So I'm showing off my flowers today.
And these oh-so-cute shabby turquoise birds.

Jewelry Box {with checker drawer pulls}

We recently finished this little jewelry box.
I debuted it on Monday in a photo of our Broken Chair Chalkboard Shelf.

Eric built this for me to paint and it's so cute!
This was bare wood, so I started with some latex paint in a light blue shade.
Over that I added some Ce Ce Caldwell's Pittsburgh Gray.

But my favorite part are the drawer pulls!
These are checker pieces painted with Virginia Chestnut and a dry brush coat of Santa Fe Turquoise.
I bought the checkers awhile back at a local store and had previously painted these 3.
I love how they look on these small drawers.
Just the right size for this little cutie!

I also cut a vinyl stencil and painted the daisies, 1 on each side and 2 on the top, with the light blue paint as well.
I think this would be just perfect for special young lady!

Chalkboard Shelf from a Broken Chair

Last fall, we were lucky enough to get permission to raid an old barn. And boy, did we ever! :) We got lots of cool goodies from that adventure!
While we were there, we peeked into an old silo too. In it, was this old broken chair back.
I'm so glad we grabbed it, even tho, at the time, I had no idea what I was going to do with it!

I finally found inspiration from Angie at Knick of Time Interiors with her awesome collection of repurposed chair backs. You should definitely check out her post, too, if you haven't seen it yet.
When we picked this one up, it was basically just the back and what I think may have been an arm of the chair. I detached the arm, cleaned it all off with soapy water, and started painting.
I decided to make the back into a chalkboard area. Who doesn't love chalkboard, after all?

For the sides, I used Duck Egg blue under Old White. I painted the cross pieces and the spindles in Santa Fe Turquoise and added Smokey Mountain over that.
Then I distressed and waxed.
I knew I wanted to add a shelf. And it just so happened that the arm I had removed was almost a perfect fit. Eric had to trim it a bit, but it worked out great! I gave that the same paint job as the rest, Duck Egg and Old White on the top and bottom of the shelf, and Santa Fe Turquoise and Smokey Mountiain on the outside edge.

It's just the right size for a few antique bottles. :)
I added three white hooks to the bottom spindle.
Still, something was missing...

I wanted to put something between the sides and the chalkboard area, but was unsure what I wanted to use there. One day at work, I was looking at some backgrounds for a design I was working when I came across a denim stock photo. Then it hit me! I could cut up an old pair of jeans to attach to my chair back.
I went home and grabbed a pair of my daughter's jeans that had grown too small, cut them into strips and painted some Old White and Santa Fe onto the denim. Once it had dried, I simply folded it so the raw edges would be in back and sewed a cute little button on to keep it tucked together. Then stapled it to the back of the chair!
The denim strips would be perfect for using as a memo board with some simple  clothespins, don't you think?
I just love how this one turned out! Hope you like it too :)

A Few Junky Office Accessories

Earlier this week, I showed you this old crate we made into a desktop organizer.
You can see that project here.
Today I'm going to share the accessories I made to go along with it.
This little tiered organizer is made from a piece I sawed off an old chair leg (the aqua piece on the very top), part of a table leg (the orange part) and some metal kitchen molds (maybe?) that I picked up at our local thrift store.
I always like the look of the tiered stands people make out of bundt pans and such. So when I saw these molds, I thought they would work great for a mini version!

I painted the outside of the molds with Santa Fe Turquoise and used E6000 to adhere the bottom piece to the old table leg Eric had cut to size for me. The top was a little trickier. The spindle was not wide enough in diameter to glue the metal to it. So I made a trip to the hardware and found a rubber washer with the right inside diameter. Then I glued that to the spindle and the metal mold to the rubber washer.
I then added some lettering...
You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have. (Maya Angelou)
It's just printed off the laser jet onto regular paper, cut it and Mod Podged onto the metal.

I figured a desk needs a pencil holder, right?
So I painted this tin can with Destin Gulf Green, added a pretty brown ribbon with aqua sequins and one of my leftover wire flowers from a previous project.
This pencil holder looks so cute sitting there in our new pretty desktop organizer!

We also made an easel clipboard out of some leftover barn wood.
I'l be sharing that with you tomorrow so be sure to visit again:)

Vintage Crate Turned Desktop Paper Organizer

Today I'm sharing a vintage crate project with you.
I love vintage crates, don't you?
This crate was an estate sale find. I'm not sure why I couldn't just let this old girl stay a plain-old crate. But... I just couldn't. I guess I figured she'd been a crate long enough.
Now it was her time to shine!

Here she is before (almost before anyway! lol). I realized after I'd started painting that I forgot a before picture. Again! So I quickly snapped this one to show you.
I used Virginia Chestnut on the outside of the crate.
Its such a wonderful, rich brown!
I also waxed it with dark aging wax to make it an even deeper shade.
For the inside, Barcelona Orange with a coat of Johnston Daffodil over that, brushed every which way so you can see the strokes. And only lightly coated in some spots, so the Orange would show through.
I painted the edges with (are you ready for it...?) Santa Fe Turquoise.
Sorry, can't help it. I just love these colors together.
I guess lots of other people must like them too, judging by the response to our
I then applied clear wax over all of that.
Eric then made some cleats and shelves so this little gal could hold papers on the desktop.
We gave her three shelves, all of which got the same paint treatment as the rest of the original crate.
This old gal is just the perfect size to hold regular size paper and a few pretty accessories too!
I'll be talking about the little goodies in these pics this week too, so be sure to stop back by. :)
I'm so glad I decided to give this crate a new life as a pretty office organizer.
She fits the bill just perfectly!
See that little box there on the right of the crate in the pic above? That's my cool new ruler box. It's got sentimental value for me. If you missed the post, you can check it out here.

Oh, What Love Can Do!

You may remember our Card Catalog Inpsired Table. If not, we'd love for you to check it out. But. long story short, before that was an eight-drawer table, it just a simple cubby bin. We actually flipped it sideways from what was intended to be the top in order to make the table. Well, it had this piece of wood on the top that we removed.

Now, it's this pretty little sign!
I just love making signs for our business.
What can I say...
I'm a sign maker by day so I guess it spills over into the evening as well. :) I enjoy designing pretty little signs without any restrictions put on my by the customer. These signs are all my handy work. I think that's why I enjoy them so much.
This little piece of wood was a dark color, not quite green and not quite brown. Pretty much mud! I liked the look of the wood and the way it was weathered and chipping a little on the edges. So I decided to work with the color.

I painted some Ce Ce Caldwell's Traverse City Cherry over the original color.
I immediately fell in love!
Once it was dry, I applied my vinyl stencil and began painting the love part of the lettering with Santa Fe Turquoise. I decided to use a different color on the rest because I wanted the 2nd part of the saying to stand out from the first part. So I used Johnston Daffodil on the other lettering and then on the flowers. Once dry, I simply dry-brushed some Turquoise over the Daffodil to give the flowers a softer look.
I couldn't have been happier when I took the stencil off!
This is one of my favorites :)
Hope you've enjoyed it as well!

Shabby Striped Stools

These two shabby stools have been mine for awhile. I used to have the perfect spot for them , a long, long time ago in another house. I had an island between my kitchen and dining room and these were great there.
But when I moved into my current house, they ended up sitting in my garage.
One day, one of them wound up back in the house, for my scrapbooking area. The legs got trimmed about 2" to fit the table height I would be sitting at.
I was all set to scrapbook.
And then I had my second child...
I got a tad bit busy.
And ended up not doing much scrapbooking after that! :)
So last week, I dug one of them out of the garage and grabbed the other lonely, unused stool from my bedroom. Once again, I forgot to take a before picture. I get so excited about starting things that I dive right in without thinking! :) But I can at least describe them for you. They originally had white legs and a light, natural stain on the top. Pretty plain and relatively boring. But functional stools, nonetheless.
I painted some Virginia Chestnut on the legs where I knew I would be distressing them. Once it was dry, I painted Old White over that.  I added Old White on the bottom of the seats as well. Then I painted the top of the stools in Chestnut and added Santa Fe Turquoise around the edges. Then I did the reverse.
I just love aqua and chocolate brown together, don't you?
I shabbied them up a bit, bot the legs and the seats, and I waxed them with both clear and dark wax.
I thought they were finished. But they just weren't...
A few days later, after staring at them, trying to figure out what else I wanted to do to them, I finally figured it out! I got out some masking tape and taped off lines of various thicknesses and spaced unevenly apart. And then I got out the Destin Gulf Green and painted some stripes, distressing those after they were dry and adding wax to those areas.
Now I think they really are done!
And I couldn't be happier with them.
What do you think of them?
